Service Description: This service includes the most recent land use mapping for the Great Barrier
Reef’s (GBR) Natural Resource Management (NRM) regions. The GBR land use
mapping 2021 dataset includes Cape York, Wet Tropics, Burdekin, Mackay
Whitsundays, Fitzroy, and Burnett Mary. The assignment of land use classes to
the GBR 2021 dataset was based on image interpretation of multi-temporal
Landsat, Sentinel, Earth-i, and high spatial resolution SPOT (French:
Satellite Pour l’Observation de la Terre), Planet and Pléiades satellite
imagery. Ancillary land use information and field observations were also used
to map the 2021 dataset. Attribution of land use classes was based on a
modified Australian Land Use Management Classification (ALUMC) Schema, Version
8 (October 2016).
This service also includes the baseline 1999 land use mapping dataset for
Queensland. The 1999 baseline dataset was incrementally updated by NRM region
from 2012 to 2017.
The Land use of Queensland is a product of the Australian Collaborative Land
Use and Management Program (ACLUMP). More information on ACLUMP available at
www.abares.gov.au/landuse.
