Description: <DIV STYLE="text-align:Left;"><DIV><DIV><P><SPAN>Turtle nesting areas can include both beaches and surrounding rocky coastlines. This terminology reflects how artificial light can influence not only the behaviour of hatchlings on the beach but also the wayfinding of both adult turtles and hatchlings in coastal waters around nesting beaches.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Scientific data has been interpreted to sort Queensland’s coastline into four categories:</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• Very Significant – over 40% of the species or genetic stock rely on the nesting area.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• Significant – over 1% of the species or genetic stock rely on the nesting area.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• Present - below 1% of the species or genetic stock (rare, infrequent visits, old records) </SPAN></P><P><SPAN>• Null - no records of turtle visits or nesting.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>Areas of "Refinement required" or "Data deficient" are in the mapping as well to signify further refinement of nesting presence.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The voluntary model code is written for sensitive areas around Significant and Very Significant turtle nesting areas.</SPAN></P><P><SPAN>The mapping is a line representing the underlying nesting area. Care should be taken interpreting the on ground nesting area</SPAN><SPAN>location to ensure the actual area is represented</SPAN><SPAN>. </SPAN></P><P><SPAN /></P></DIV></DIV></DIV>
