This dataset displays the extent of marine islands (offshore) and terrestrial islands (within an inland waterbody) within the State of Queensland.
This Queensland wide dataset provides generalised information for topographical mapping purposes.
To provide digital data displaying the marine islands (including: cays, isles, islet) and the terrestrial islands within the State of Queensland. The primary objective of this dataset is to provide a cartographic portrayal of Queensland's natural features and should be interpreted and utilised correctly. It is suitable for use in land administration, emergency management, topographic mapping and in the production of web based mapping applications.

Marine islands are those islands beyond the Queensland mainland and their boundary coincides with the Coastline and State Border - Queensland dataset. Features within this dataset have been captured or updated from the best available imagery with an attribute within the data describing the source and reliability. Data sources include but not limited to: - Queensland Orthophotography - Satellite Imagery

Feature Types: MARINE ISLAND - An area of dry or relatively dry land surrounded by the sea (includes terms: Cay, Island, Isles, Islet).

Attributes: FEATURE_TYPE (Feature Type) - Unique feature type that identifies the type of feature. e.g. Marine Island

ALTERNATE_NAME (Alternate Name) - An alternate name of the feature if available from the Queensland Place Names Database, otherwise left blank.

UFI (UFI) - A Unique Feature Identifier (UFI) is generated once for each new feature at the point of creation (at this point the PFI and UFI will be the same). The value of the UFI will stay with the feature through all changes to the feature (both spatial and non-spatial) unless the feature is split into multiple other parts. If the feature is split, the separate parts will retain the original PFI but new UFI’s will be generated for the split parts.
CREATED_DATE (Created Date) - The date the feature was originally captured and first loaded to the database
LAST_EDITED_DATE (Last Edited Date) - Date of the last editing or revision to the feature
DIMENSION_M2 (Dimension (m²)) - The area of the feature measured in square metres (Albers projection)

This dataset is derived from and is coincident with the Coastline and State Border - Queensland dataset. Within the Coastline and State Border - Queensland dataset, the coastline was digitized from the most current imagery by defining mean high water from sand coloration and debris lines. Where available, the highest astronomical tide line generated from LiDAR was used to help define the line. Were the line is obscured by vegetation, in particular mangroves; the seaward edge of the vegetation is adopted. The coastline feature does not cross the entrances to large inland waterbodies. In these instances, a feature type Junction is used to seamlessly connect the coastline. The coastline linear features are polygonised to create the island features.
This dataset is GDA2020 Compliant. The source data, and therefore the captured features, were captured as GDA94 (horizontal only). This data has been projected to GDA2020 by using ArcGIS Pro geoprocessing tool Project geoprocessing. Using geographic transformation parameters ‘GDA94 to GDA2020 NTv2 3 Conformal’.
The data has also been processed to remove any redundant vertices by using ArcGIS Pro’s Simplify Polygon geoprocessing tool. Retain critical points (Douglas-Peucker) method was used for the Simplification Algorithm and a Simplification tolerance of 0.25m. The data was further processed using an ESRI validation in a Repair Geometry geoprocessing tool and deleting any features with Null geometry.
