World heritage sites that are nominated for World Heritage listing are inscribed on the list after they have been carefully assessed as representing the best examples of the world's cultural and natural heritage. Australia currently has 20 properties on the World Heritage List of which Queensland has five.

For the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area the areas defined in this dataset are based on the 1:50000 scale WTQ plans drafted in 1991-92. The areas in this dataset were realigned to current cadastral information published 5 September 2022.
Data are derived by digital cadastre at the time of inscription, and potentially updated as required to reflect improvements in boundary accuracy.
